Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this irresistible Homemade Queso Dip.
Perfect for game nights, parties, or simply as a delicious snack, this rich and creamy dip combines the sharp flavours of cheddar cheese with aromatic spices and fresh vegetables.
It’s a crowd-pleaser that’s surprisingly easy to make, allowing you to skip the store-bought versions and treat your taste buds to authentic, homemade goodness.
To create this mouthwatering dip, start by gathering your ingredients. You’ll need shredded cheddar cheese, cornstarch, butter, garlic powder, onion, evaporated milk, tomato, onion powder, cilantro, and a splash of regular milk.
The magic begins by coating the shredded cheese with cornstarch in a large bowl, a simple trick that ensures a smooth, clump-free dip.
Next, melt butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and diced onion, allowing them to sauté until the onion becomes translucent, typically about three minutes.
This process releases their flavours, creating a fragrant base for your queso. Then, introduce diced tomato to the pan, cooking for an additional two minutes to soften it slightly.
Now comes the crucial step of creating that creamy queso texture. Pour in the evaporated milk and add your cornstarch-coated cheese. Stir constantly as the cheese melts and combines with the milk, creating a velvety smooth mixture. As you see the dip starting to thicken, sprinkle in your spices, enhancing the flavour profile of your queso.
The final touches involve adjusting the seasoning and consistency. Add salt to taste and stir in fresh cilantro for a burst of colour and flavour. If you find your queso is too thick, simply add a couple of tablespoons of water to achieve your desired consistency. Once you’re satisfied with both the taste and texture, remove the pan from heat.
Serve your homemade queso dip warm or at room temperature, accompanied by a bowl of crispy tortilla chips. Watch as your guests dip eagerly into this creamy, cheesy heaven, savouring every bite of your homemade creation.
Whether it’s the star of your appetizer spread or a comforting snack for a cozy night in, this Homemade Queso Dip is sure to become a favourite in your recipe collection. Enjoy the rich, melty goodness of this classic Tex-Mex delight!
