I’m sharing our family’s absolute favourite morning hack – freezer-friendly breakfast sandwiches that my 4-year-old absolutely loves.
Let’s be honest – getting kiddos ready for school while trying to serve a wholesome breakfast can feel like juggling flaming torches sometimes.
But what if I told you that you could have warm, delicious, homemade breakfast sandwiches ready in minutes?
These sandwiches are like having a breakfast fairy godmother in your freezer!
I used to be quite skeptical about freezer sandwiches because reheating them seemed like I would lose all the flavour.
I have figured out how to freeze them properly so they are as fresh as possible when they are reheated.
Why Your Family Will Love These
- Kids think it’s SO cool to help assemble their own “sandwich factory”
- Perfect for those “Mom, I’m hungryyyyy!” moments
- Customizable for picky eaters (my little one loves creating “faces” with different toppings!)
- Healthier and more budget-friendly than drive-through breakfast
The Magic Recipe (Makes 8 Sandwiches)
What You’ll Need
- 8 English muffins or bagels (we toast ours until they’re golden-brown and perfect!)
- 8 large eggs (that’s like counting to 8 twice – once for cracking, once for eating!)
- 8 slices of cheddar cheese
- 8 slices of bacon (or sausage patties, ham, or plant-based options)
- 2 tablespoons butter or cooking spray
- Optional toppings for after reheating: spinach leaves (“dragon scales”), tomato slices (“superhero circles”), or avocado (“green monster spread”)
- Salt and pepper
- Parchment paper or foil for your sandwich sleeping bags
- Freezer bags or containers
The Fun Part – Let’s Make Magic!
- Toast Your Bread First, we’re going to make our English muffins or bagels nice and toasty! Let them cool down completely – we don’t want soggy sandwiches!
- Cook Your Protein Whether you choose crispy bacon, sausage patties, or another option, cook them up until they’re just perfect. Pat them dry with paper towels – we’re making sandwiches, not slip-n-slides!
- Egg-cellent Eggs Here’s where the real magic happens! You can either:
- Cook each egg individually (perfect circles are extra fun!)
- OR make a giant sheet pan of eggs (my kiddo calls this the “egg pizza” method)
- Build Your Sandwiches Assembly line time! This is where little helpers shine:
- Bottom bread piece
- Add your protein
- Add your egg
- Add your cheese
- Top with the other bread piece
- Let everything cool down (perfect time for a quick clean-up song!)
- Wrap Them Up Tuck each sandwich into its own cozy wrapper of parchment paper or foil. Pop them into freezer bags or containers, and don’t forget to write the date!
The Morning Magic (Reheating Instructions)
When breakfast time rolls around:
- Unwrap your sandwich
- Give it a new blanket (damp paper towel)
- Choose your warming method:
- Microwave Magic: 1-2 minutes at 50% power, then 1-2 minutes at full power
- Oven Magic: 20-30 minutes at 350°F (175°C), wrapped in foil
- Air Fryer: 6 minutes at 350°F, keeps the bacon super crisy
