Growing up, my family would go to our local flea market every other Saturday.
There was a Greek family that would sell skewers of souvlaki and tubs of homemade tzatziki. It was always one of my favourite meals growing up.
My dad would barbeque the skewers and we would always have it with a side of rice or baked potatoes.
Not only was the trip to the flea market a favourite memory but the food was also always amazing.
Remembering how much I loved going to the flea market, I wanted to show my sons one of my favourite meals growing up.
That is why I came up with this recipe that is as similar as I can get to the Greek chicken and tzatziki I grew up on.
What to Do with Leftover Tzatziki Sauce
Tzatziki sauce is a versatile and delicious addition to many dishes, but sometimes we end up with more than we need. Don’t let that extra sauce go to waste! Here are some creative and tasty ways to use up your leftover tzatziki sauce.
1. Dip
One of the simplest ways to use tzatziki is as a healthy dip. Pair it with fresh veggies like carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers. It’s a quick and easy snack that’s both nutritious and satisfying.
2. Salad Dressing
Transform your tzatziki into a creamy salad dressing. Just thin it out with a bit of milk or water until you reach your desired consistency. Drizzle it over your favourite salad for a refreshing twist.
3. Meat Sauce
Tzatziki makes a fantastic sauce for grilled meats. Use it as a topping for chicken, beef, or lamb to add a burst of flavor. It’s especially great on kebabs and gyros.
4. Sandwich Spread
Elevate your sandwiches and wraps by using tzatziki as a spread. It adds a creamy, tangy element that pairs well with a variety of fillings. Try it with turkey, ham, or roasted veggies.
5. Chicken Salad
Mix tzatziki with shredded chicken to create a delicious chicken salad. It’s a perfect filling for sandwiches or a topping for salads. The yogurt-based sauce adds a nice tang and creaminess.
6. Roasted Vegetables
Drizzle tzatziki over roasted vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, or zucchini. The cool, creamy sauce complements the warm, caramelized veggies beautifully.
7. Burger Topping
Add a refreshing twist to your burgers by using tzatziki as a topping. It pairs especially well with lamb burgers, but it’s also great on beef or veggie burgers. The combination of cool sauce and hot burger is simply irresistible.
8. Grain Bowls
Incorporate tzatziki into your grain bowls for an extra layer of flavour. It works well with quinoa, rice, or farro, along with your favorite veggies and proteins.
9. Baked Potatoes
Top your baked potatoes with a dollop of tzatziki for a Greek-inspired twist. It’s a great alternative to sour cream.
